The Alley, least expensive ski of the Freestyle line, is a twin-tipped jib ski at heart, but its tapered, directional sidecut gives it a measure of all-mountain versatility for young riders who can only afford one ski and don't expect to spend all day in the park. And affordable it is: expect to find it for around $300. Four park-ready models dominate Volkl's youthful Freestyle collection, but it also includes a value-priced do-it-all tweener ski, the Alley, and (because where else in the line are you going to put it?) a competition bump ski, the Mogul. There are three all-park-all-the-time designs: The Wall is the top model, athlete-built; the Step and Ledge are more affordable. The Kink has a more traditional, tapered shape for additional all-mountain versatility. All are metal-free, wood-core constructions, denser underfoot for good binding retention, lighter at the extremities for whippy swing-weight. Some (Wall, Kink, Step) have carbon reinforcement.
